Strength in Numbers? Apple and Peacock Team Up

There’s another streaming bundle on the market. This time, uniting two of our smallest major streamers, with some of the smallest subscriber bases to match. With the full details, we have Blake & Wang P.A., entertainment attorney, Brandon Blake.

New Streaming Bundle

For just $14.99, a 30% saving on buying the two subscriptions separately, subscribers will now be able to watch both Apple TV and Peacock as part of a new streaming bundle.

We’ve seen bundling become a core part of the streaming model this year, with many different partnerships emerging as streaming platforms look to increase subscriber access and new market share, from legacy-streaming partnerships to streamer bundles like this one.

At the last count, Peacock saw very little quarterly subscriber growth, leaving it in the 41M range. Apple is believed to have subscriber numbers in the 45M range currently. This leaves them as two of the smaller “big name” streaming services running to date. Notably, both have also had profit struggles, with Peacock losing $101M in Q2 of this year, and Apple possibly losing as much as $1B a year, a loss-leader supported by the wider Amazon retail shopping platform.

Launching Late October

In the standard package, subscribers will receive Apple TV and Peacock Premium with ads. Should they opt to upgrade to the ad-free Peacock Premium Plus, they will be looking at a cost of $19.99. There is also an option to upgrade to Apple One, which offers all of Apple’s services, for a 35% discount on Peacock. While Peacock has also partnered with Amazon Prime, that deal simply brings Peacock as another Prime channel add-on, vs. a true bundle.

If the wider landscape of bundling is starting to seem as bewildering as the legacy cable networks once were, you’re not alone. Without bundling, many of our current streamer crop will not survive as the market becomes even more oversaturated. Is there a reckoning ahead? Very likely- but for now, there’s one more streaming bundle for viewers to leverage.
