Ticket to Paradise Hits the $100M Global Mark

With superheroes and blockbusters dominating 2022’s best performing lists, it’s interesting indeed to see a classic rom-com with an older cast move its way into the coveted $100M territory. Yet Ticket to Paradise has managed to pull in a solid global showing, slightly unexpectedly. Brandon Blake, our entertainment attorney and expert from Blake & Wang P.A, has all the details.

$102.5M to Date

With $20.6M domestically and a further $81.9M from the international box office, Ticket to Paradise now sits at a global total of $102.5M. It does have the benefit of having released earlier overseas than domestically, exceeding its launch predictions to pull in $16.3M. It first launched globally in September, and has also proven to have solid traction with an audience demographic that has been missing from cinemas of late- women over 35. It is also scoring particularly well with audiences, netting an A- CinemaScore. It will be released in Japan, its final international market, in November.

Solid Performance

It also managed to set a milestone for the leading pair, Julia Roberts and George Clooney, who can now claim 5 on screen pairings that have together netted them over $1B at the global box office. It is also their biggest hits since 2017 and 2016 respectively. It has managed to bow the No 1 spot in 48 of its markets on its opening weekend, too.

While the roaring success of this year’s stellar crop of superhero fare and blockbusters has been fantastic to see, helping to propel a stronger box office recovery than expected, it is nice to see smaller scale movies take a step up the ladder, too. With several arthouse and indie titles also turning in a stellar performance this month, hopefully this means good things for a broader diversity of films on offer in 2023.
