Brandon Blake- Entertainment Attorney Los Angeles

Here at BLAKE & WANG P.A Entertainment attorney we’ve focused a lot on the reopening of the exhibition industry in key US domestic markets, most especially New York City and Los Angeles, where cinemas remained shuttered long after a more general reopening. Today it’s time to widen our field of view even more, and take a look at international happenings ‘over the pond’ in the UK.

As of this week, British cinemagoers can head back out for a day’s entertainment. This comes as they successfully wade deep into their vaccine rollout, and many of their coronavirus restrictions can be dismantled. What does this mean for moviegoers specifically? They’ll be able to sample Oscar winners Minari and Nomadland on the big screen. There’s also Lionsgate’s Spiral: from the Book of Saw, with Chris Rock and Samuel L Jackson teaming up as a father/son cop duo in the latest addition to the $1 billion Saw franchise to enjoy.

On top of last week's announcement of the U.S-based Cineworld deal that will see an exclusive 31-day window on Universal films, as well as deals with 4 other major studios, it’s great news for the exhibition industry overall. Nor is it the only good news on the horizon. TV studios have also been given the greenlight to allow studio audiences to return. Reduced capacity will still apply, but at least it will allow a slow return to normalcy. Currently, June 21 is predicted as a potential date for a return to full capacity and the relaxing of many social distancing rules, depending on the continued vaccine rollout and any developments with the virus strains we’ve seen arise in Brazil and India.

It’s certainly an encouraging move for the international exhibition industry as a whole, and BLAKE & WANG P.A Entertainment Lawyer will be watching further developments in the arena with much interest.
